CHAOS surrounded Dunoon Stadium at the weekend as young aspiring footballers descended on the town for Dunoon Youth Football League’s (DYFL) annual football festival.
Among ten teams from the DYFL ranging from 2015s to 2020s age groups were squads from all across the west of Scotland.
Players travelled from Greenock, Shotts, Dunblane, Helensburgh and Oban, to name a few, with a day of action on Dunoon Stadium’s field in store.
At the close of play, many left with a sense of achievement after success on the pitch, but all departed with a great experience after visiting the Cowal Peninsula for what could have been their first time.
The event garnered praise from many groups, including Dumbarton United coaches, who said: “On behalf of everyone at Dumbarton United 2015s, we would like to say a huge thank you to the organisers, volunteers, and everyone involved in making the Dunoon tournament such a fantastic event once again.
It has been an absolute pleasure taking part year after year — the welcome we receive in Dunoon is always second to none, and the memories made here will stay with our players, coaches and families forever.
We are so grateful for all your hard work, effort and hospitality over the years — you truly go above and beyond.”
Similarly, Crosshouse coaches were full of praise for the event. They said: “A huge thanks to everyone involved in the tournament in Dunoon.
Our kids had a fantastic day and the games were all played in the right manner, which is a credit to all teams involved.”
This sentiment was echoed by the organisers of the tournament themselves, who were delighted with the success of the occasion.
A spokesperson for the DYFL said: “There was lots of fantastic football on show and lots of smiles on faces, with kids making memories. We had absolutely fantastic reports from other teams.
A massive thank you to Shearwater Dunoon, Cothouse, Build Depot, Sweet Spot, CX Services and all our pitch sponsors who kindly sponsored the event.
The event is growing every year and we are already looking forward to next year’s event.
I would like to say a massive thank you to all the DYFL coaches, committee teams and helpers who make this event possible.
If you would like to join the club please get in touch.”
