STORM Boelo may have put the brakes on Dunoon Youth Football League’s annual sponsored Halloween walk, but it couldn’t dampen the spirits of young footballers who stayed up all night to raise funds for their club.
The league’s third annual sponsored walk was due to take place on Sunday, October 25, but organisers were forced to postpone the event as powerful winds battered Cowal throughout the weekend.
With the safety of the young players a priority, the club took the decision to reschedule the walk for the following Sunday, November 1, weather permitting.
Announcing the postponement in typically light-hearted fashion, organisers joked that they didn’t want their young footballers doing a Dorothy and being blown away to Oz.
However, the storm failed to spoil the club’s Halloween fundraising celebrations, with players from the 2014, 2013 and 2010 age groups taking part in a 12-hour overnight challenge.
Beginning at 7pm and continuing until 7am, the youngsters were joined by coaches for a night of games, karaoke and Halloween fun, all in aid of raising money for the league.
The marathon fundraising effort saw participants staying awake throughout the night, with plenty of entertainment helping to keep spirits high as the hours ticked by.
The club also arranged live social media updates, allowing sponsors and supporters to check in on the youngsters as they tackled their overnight challenge.
The event provided an opportunity for players from different age groups to come together away from the football pitch while supporting the club’s fundraising efforts.
Organisers thanked everyone who sponsored the youngsters and supported the event, with donations helping to raise funds for the continued activities of Dunoon Youth Football League.
Attention now turns to the rearranged sponsored walk, which organisers hope will go ahead on Sunday, November 1, provided the weather improves.
