STAFF were evacuated from the Cruachan Power Station this week after reports of an explosion in the hollow mountain. The alarm was raised after smoke was detected inside the cavern.
Emergency services were alerted and were on-site on Tuesday evening. The A85 was closed in both directions for around two hours while the incident was investigated.
The owners of the Cruachan site Drax, said there were no injuries and investigations continue.
Scottish Fire and Rescue sent four appliances to the site at Loch Awe near Dalmally.
The pumped storage station inside the mountain, the highest in Argyll and Bute at 3,694ft, was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1965. It was a world first at the time.
Plans to build Cruachan 2 had earlier been postponed until a later date.
