Firefighters take on 800-mile challenge

A TEAM of Fighters working in Argyll and Bute will once again be taking on the MyName5Doddie challenge in March.

The Doddie’5 Fire Team is made up of Joe McKay, Barrie McCutcheon, Willie Wilson, Andy McGregor, Roddie Shaw, Allan MacIntyre, Adrian Rice and Graham Griffiths – all from the Fire Service – and Mark Wilson, they have all been in training since before Christmas in preparation of taking on the challenge.

They will have a support team made up of firefighters who will take care of the logistics and any breakdowns along the way of bikes and bodies.

The fire service has greatly supported the initiative over the past few years, as they have raised around £50.000.

The event runs from Tuesday 10-13 of March and will cover 800 miles over four days – arriving in Dublin the evening before Scotland takes on Ireland at the Aviva Stadium. The circuitous route is set as follows: Day one, – Melrose to Leeds; day two, – Leeds to Gloucester; day three, – Gloucester to Fishguard (overnight ferry to Ireland); day four, – Rosslare to Dublin.
