PLANS have been lodged for a footpath with a handrail linking the slipway with the bus stop at a Cowal Peninsula ferry terminal.
Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd have submitted the application for planning permission to Argyll and Bute Council for Portavadie Ferry Terminal.
The proposed footpath is designed to provide a safe pedestrian route from the slipway to the bus stop to allow for connection with public transport.
A decision from the council is expected by late September, with the public now able to view the plans and submit feedback.
A supporting statement submitted with the application said: “The proposed development would be in keeping with the character of the area, with minimal impact on the landscape, as it represents only a minor modification to existing infrastructure.
“The proposed development is situated on a brownfield site already in use as a ferry terminal, thereby making use of previously developed land and minimising impact on greenfield sites.
“The proposed development would provide a safe pedestrian link between the new low-emission all-electric ferry and the bus stop used for onward public transport.
“The footpath has been proposed to complement the SVRP works which were developed in response to the demand for additional marshalling capacity at Portavadie.
“The design incorporates a kerb-segregated pedestrian walkway and handrail for accessibility and additional safety in the vehicle marshalling area. This would improve efficiency in boarding the vessel once docked reducing loading and unloading times.
“The proposed development would deliver improved safety for pedestrians using the sustainable transportation link between Portavadie and Tarbert.”
