PLANS to convert a former bank premises in Inveraray into three short-term letting units have been given the go-ahead by council officers.
The former Royal Bank of Scotland building at Campbell House, in Church Square, was the subject of an application by Mr and Mrs S Campbell.
The proposal was to bring the building under the accommodation of Brambles of Inveraray, with two one-bedroom units and one larger three-bedroom unit.
Argyll and Bute Council received no representations from the public, expressing objection or support, during the planning process and planning permission has now been granted.
The premises were last used as a bank in the late 2010s.
A council officer said in a handling report: “The subject of the planning application is a three-storey traditionally designed and proportioned sandstone building located centrally within Inveraray.
“The building was previously used as a bank on the ground level with ancillary staff accommodation on its upper levels.
“The site lies within the Inveraray conservation area and gardens and designed landscapes of Inveraray Castle.
“To the northeast of the application site along the A83 Main Street is an area characterised by mixed use development (many of which are listed buildings), with a row of retail units dominating the ground floor streetscape and residential properties/short term accommodations/hotels occupying the upper floors.
“A car park with three car parking spaces would be formed to the front of the building. The car park would be paved with coloured tarmac. A new stone boundary would be erected surrounding the car park.
“Transport Scotland was consulted and raised concern on the use of gravel and the erection bollards proposed within the initial design.
“The applicant subsequently submitted a revised design with the use of coloured tarmac and the use of private parking signage to deter unauthorised parking as an alternative. Transport Scotland has no objection to the revised proposal.”
The officer concluded: “Having regard to all the above, it is considered that there are no relevant material considerations which would prevent planning permission being granted for the scheme of development applied for in this instance.”
A design access statement by REM Associates, submitted with the application, said: “The proposal is to bring Campbell House, formerly the RBS building under the accommodation of Brambles of Inveraray with a change of use to provide three short-term letting units, two one-bedroom units and one larger three-bedroom unit.
