‘Fragile’ Blairmore road link cannot be ignored

Editor – The road improvements for the SSEN Overhead Line Rebuild are excellent and long overdue. Sadly though they are only improvements. Necessary repairs have not been implemented at Blairmore, where the ‘temporary’ traffic lights remain some three years on from the collapse of the sea wall. The temporary ballast ‘repair’ is reducing every time we get an easterly wind, and cracks in the road surface now extend almost to the other carriageway. I fear that further heavy vehicles, added to the existing MacArthur and forestry traffic, may well destabilise the road at an even more rapid rate.

I’m aware that the required repairs are going to be expensive, but the longer the wait the greater the likely rebuild will be, and to plan a large infrastructure project ignoring this fragile link on the route seems incredibly short-sighted.
