A SUCCESSFUL day of bowling was enjoyed at Upper Cowal Bowling Club on Sunday, August 23, when 16 mixed triples from clubs across the local area and Bute competed for the annual Western Ferries-sponsored competition.
The competition followed the traditional round-robin format, with four teams progressing to the semi-finals.
After some closely contested games, the final was won by Alison Girvan, Colin Smith and Stevan Girvan, representing Dunoon Argyll Bowling Club.
Runners-up were Christine Richmond, Scott Richmond and Andy Scott of Kirn and Hunters Quay Bowling Club.
The losing semi-finalists were Upper Cowal Bowling Club’s Julie Monaghan, Stuart Downs and Jason Monaghan, along with Isobel Lauder, Eddie Wallace and Stevie Scott of Bogleha’ Bowling Club.
At the conclusion of play, the prizes were presented by club president Helen McVicar.
Before announcing the winners, Helen thanked everyone who had helped make the competition run smoothly, despite a minor hiccup at the start of proceedings.
She gave special thanks to the club’s kitchen team, whose hard work and efforts were greatly appreciated by everyone taking part.
The club also thanked Western Ferries for its continued generous sponsorship of the annual competition.
