INNELLAN Golf Club has enjoyed another busy fortnight of competition, with fine weather and excellent course conditions producing impressive scores across both the men’s and ladies’ events.
Although the prolonged dry spell has made the course more challenging, players have continued to produce outstanding golf on a course praised for being in superb condition.
In the Wednesday Series, week 13 was won by Alisdair Simpson with a score of 19, ahead of Stewart Campbell on 17 and Iain McKie on 15. Week 14 belonged to Stewart Campbell, who posted 21 to finish ahead of Duncan Lauder on 20 and Neil Ferguson on 19.
The Saturday Series also produced some exceptional scoring. Week 13 saw Jim Gallagher card a remarkable 57 to claim victory, with Ben Bryant close behind on 58 and Scott Lauffer third with 62. In week 14, Alisdair Simpson returned to the winners’ circle with 35 points, edging out Garry Hopcroft on 34, while Gordon Livingston also scored 34 but had to settle for third after the countback.
Elsewhere, the ladies have also enjoyed a successful spell of competition.
Shonna Derrett continued her impressive season by adding the Ladies’ Myriad Festival Quaich to her growing collection of silverware after winning with 34 points, ahead of Margaret Lauder on 32.
Derrett then followed up with another victory in the July Medal, finishing on 37 ahead of Mary Reid.
The accompanying nine-hole Stableford competition was won by Margaret Gallagher with 18 points, with Rhona McCourt second on 16 and Janis Foster third on 15.
Rhona McCourt then claimed victory in the Buthkollidar Cup, scoring an excellent 18 points to finish ahead of Margaret Lauder on 16, while Karen Mitchell took third place with 15.
The Men’s Festival Cup was won by Alisdair Simpson with an excellent round of 65, finishing one shot ahead of Simon McMahon on 66, while Russell Lees was third with 68.
The July Medal also proved to be closely contested, with David Cooper taking victory on 62, narrowly ahead of Iain McKie on 63 and Gordon Miller on 64.
Club officials thanked the greenkeeping staff for maintaining the course in outstanding condition throughout the busy summer period and also paid tribute to the volunteers who help organise competitions, manage scoring, count takings and look after the clubhouse.
Looking ahead, attention now turns to The Royal Hotel Trophy, which will be played on Saturday, August 2. Members can book a tee time by adding their name to the sheet in the clubhouse or by emailing [email protected].
