BLAIRMORE and Strone Golf Club members have shown plenty of resilience over the winter months, continuing their popular Winter Cup series despite persistently wet conditions. The competition, held on the third Saturday of each month from October through to March, has provided a competitive and enjoyable fixture in the club calendar.
The final round of the series took place this month, with Raymond Gorman producing an excellent performance to claim both the day’s honours and the overall title. His impressive net score of 62 secured victory and capped off a consistent run across the six- match competition.
Over recent weeks, Michael Caveney has also been in outstanding form. He recorded three consecutive Saturday victories with net scores of 59, 62 and an exceptional 56 in the weeks from February 28. That run included success in the John Brown of Strone February Medal, underlining his strong finish to the winter season.
Off the course, the club also held its Annual General Meeting last week, with members gathering to reflect on the past year and look ahead to the new season. Simon Whitehead was elected as the new club captain, with Lorraine Daw taking on the role of vice- captain.
Financial matters were also discussed, with the club agreeing to keep most fees unchanged. However, a small increase was approved for adult annual membership, which will rise by £10 to £285. The first-year membership fee will also increase to £160.
