A GP serving communities in Cowal and Mid Argyll will not provide medical services at three practices for six months, NHS Highland has confirmed.
Dr Robert Coull will not perform medical services at Strachur, Furnace and Inveraray GP practices for a six-month period which began on Friday, September 18.
Patients registered with the practices were informed of the temporary change in a letter issued by Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership on Monday.
The letter told patients that their registered practice would remain responsible for their primary care needs and that arrangements were being made to maintain continuity of care.
In a statement provided to the Dunoon Observer, an NHS Highland spokesman said: There has been a temporary change to the way that primary care services will be provided at Strachur, Furnace and Inveraray GP practices. Dr Robert Coull will not be performing medical services at the Practices for a period of six months from 18 September 2026 and patients have been informed of this change.
The contract holders for the Practices do however remain responsible for maintaining essential primary medical services for their registered patients and for the provision of practice staff.
They added: NHS Highland and Argyll and Bute HSCP are working closely with the practices to support service continuity, including arrangements for locum GP cover where required. GPs have been available in both practices today, with plans in place for the rest of this week.
We recognise that this is an unsettling situation for patients and practice staff. NHS Highland and the HSCP will continue to work closely with the contractor and practice teams to ensure appropriate support and safe access to primary care services.
Patients have been asked to continue contacting their usual GP practice for appointments, advice and access to services. The letter also states that patients will be informed if there are further changes to how services are delivered.
