A deadline for expressions of interest in joining Greenock Town Board has been extended until the end of August, it has been confirmed.
The body, which oversees the works of the Pride in Place programme locally, has agreed to appoint two members to complement the 10 already on it.
It is seeking applications from individuals with a strong connection to the town who have the skills and experience to contribute to its regeneration.
A statement said: “The board currently has strong representation from local business people and politicians and would particularly welcome applications from people who are able to represent the wider community, including from young people and those from traditionally underrepresented groups.
“This is an exciting opportunity for someone from the Greenock community to get involved with the transformation of the town.
“Community board members will be required to prepare for and attend quarterly meetings and will also be invited to events, project visits and workshops on an ad-hoc basis.”
The 10-year Pride in Place blueprint was unveiled by the board on Friday, June 19.
It sets out a vision for Greenock’s future with the aim that it will be ‘an inclusive, enterprising place with an attractive, thriving town centre’ by 2036 as well as a ‘vibrant visitor destination and a town that people are proud to call home’.
The plan will be developed and rolled out over the next decade using £20m of UK Government funding and potential additional external investment, complementing recent and ongoing regeneration projects.
The board is chaired by Lord Willie Haughey alongside vice chair Dr Poonam Gupta OBE. The other members are councillors Elizabeth Robertson and Francesca Brennan, Martin McCluskey MP, Stuart McMillan MSP, Chief Inspector David Doherty, Charlene Elliott of CVS Inverclyde, Keith Wilson of Smith’s and Lizzy Todd of Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce.
