PLANS have been revealed for a hotel with 13 rooms to be situated in Helensburgh town centre.
Arthur Bates has lodged applications for planning permission and listed building consent with Argyll and Bute Council for the site at 48-50 Sinclair Street.
The building was originally used as council offices before being sold in 2015, with part of the building becoming Peckhams Restaurant.
The previous application included the formation of six flats on the upper floors. The current one wants to increase the provision of rooms to thirteen.
A decision from council officers is expected by late March, with the plans now available for the public to view and submit feedback.
A planning statement has been compiled with the application, on notepaper headed ‘The Townhouse’.
The statement said: “Planning permission and listed building consent was granted in 2016 for ‘Change of use of offices and residential dwelling to licensed restaurant, bar and retail licensed deli with part class three use, function suites, formation of six flats on the upper floors, addition of external seating area to front and rear and installation of gates to the rear wall and passage way entrance’. Works were commenced in 2017 for the subjects.
“This application seeks to increase the provision of six rooms to thirteen rooms in order to ensure the proposals are financially viable as the original rooms were overly large, including a large living room and bedroom.
“The revised proposals lower the hotel room sizes to an more common industry standard size including space for a double bed, furniture, TV and en-suites to a high standard.
“The current subjects are located on ground, first and second floor. There’s a shared central stairwell which can be used to access the upper floors. The remaining parts of the building are being used as restaurant/event space.
“The original proposals did not have a ground floor reception or customer areas. The revised proposals include a reception and ground floor space for customers.”
It is proposed that access to the hotel is through double doors facing Sinclair Street, along with single side door access. No access is intended through the courtyard area which is used for Peckhams.
