VISITORS will have the chance to explore more than 1,500 years of local history for free when Historic Kilmun takes part in the nationwide Doors Open Days this weekend.
The heritage museum will waive its usual admission charge on Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, as part of the annual initiative organised by the Scottish Civic Trust.
Historic Kilmun will be among venues across Argyll and Bute opening their doors free of charge, giving residents and visitors an opportunity to discover some of the area’s historic buildings and attractions.
A spokesperson for Historic Kilmun said: “This is an excellent scheme that encourages local people and visitors to the area to engage with venues such as our own without charge.
“We’ve been involved for a number of years now, and it’s always fantastic to see folks coming along to explore the many heritage stories associated with Historic Kilmun.”
The site has a history stretching back more than 1,500 years, with its origins associated with the arrival of St Munn on the shores of the Holy Loch in the seventh century.
The spokesperson added: “We hope that this year’s free weekend will prove to be as successful as it has been in previous years.”
