Naval Base staff across Clyde took a moment, gathering at the site’s chapel to remember those that came before us this Armistice Day (Nov 11).
Over 200 military and civilian personnel gathered in St Mungo’s Naval Base Church, joining many people around the world in coming together to remember those that gave their today for our tomorrow.
The service was led by the Naval Base’s Chaplaincy Team, opening with a prayer before reciting the Act of Remembrance. Warrant Officer 1 Kevin Bowie, Royal Marine, read out the roll of honour and after, Base Executive Officer, Commander Nick Stewart, read an excerpt from Binyon’s For the Fallen.
The Bugler played the Last Post which was followed by the traditional two-minute silence, before HM Naval Base Clyde’s First Lieutenant, Lieutenant Commander Philip Nicholson read the poignant Kohima Epitaph.
The wreath laying ceremony began with Naval Base Commander Clyde, Commodore Sharon Malkin ADC presenting on behalf of the Naval Base with Commander Submarine Flotilla, Commodore Ben Haskins CBE laying on behalf of the Submarine Flotilla (SUBFLOT).
Wreaths were also laid on behalf of Fleet Operational Standards and Training, 43 Commando, Ministry of Defence Police, Babcock, Lockheed Martin UK, and ESS.
Throughout the service, prayers and readings were led by the Naval Base chaplains: Reverend Mark Allsopp, Reverend James Percival, Father Michael Maloney, and Reverend Mark Street. The service was brought to a close with the Naval Hymn, a final Blessing, and then the National Anthem.
