Innellan hosts The Lamont Trophy Pairs

Innellan Carpet Bowling Club held its annual Open Pairs for The Lamont Trophy on Saturday, January 24.

14 pairs entered from Colintraive, Inveraray, Kilmun, Strathlachlan & the host club and a great night of very competitive bowling was enjoyed by all.

The teams that reached the semis were Mary & Dougie Menzies (Kilmun CBC), Jamie Mathieson & Curly Black (Innellan CBC), Colin Steedman & Donnie MacPhail (Innellan & Colintraive CBC’s) & Tom Paton & Alastair Fraser (Strathlachlan CBC).

The two pairs going through to the final were Colin & Donnie, who took on Tom & Alastair. The final was a tricky game for all four bowlers with all of them delivering bowls which sailed through the rings with no contact whatsoever. This is very unusual & frustration was the name of the game. Tom & Alastair won through in the end & were presented with the Lamont Trophy by the club president, Duncan Lauder. Colin & Donnie received the runners up trophy which was still an achievement following the standard of play all evening.

A spokesperson for Innellan Carpet Bowling Club said: “Congratulations to them all & thank-you to everyone who entered, especially our travelling bowlers from Inveraray.

“Huge thanks go to our sponsor Bert Mitchell, whose mother was one of the Lamont sisters who put up this trophy when it was first played for at Towards Carpet Bowling Club. When the Toward Club closed down, Innellan carried this trophy on & it is our biggest competition each year.”

they continued: “Our star of the evening was Carrie O’Brien who, as always, looks after the supper & ensures everyone is fed & watered.

“Thanks also to all the members who assisted with the assembling & dismantling of the four tables, which is a lengthy task & to everyone who brought raffle prizes.

“We’re looking forward to our 2027 Lamont Trophy already.”
