THE music of Irving Berlin will take centre stage when Cowal Music Club opens its new season at Dunoon Burgh Hall this weekend.
The Celebrating Trio – mezzo-soprano Jane Monari, tenor Christian Schneeberger and pianist Edward Cohen – will perform at the Burgh Hall on Sunday, September 20, at 7.30pm.
Presented in association with Classical Musicians Scotland, the concert will combine the story of the celebrated American composer’s life with a selection of his best-known songs, performed as solos and duets.
The programme will include favourites such as Alexander’s Ragtime Band and Anything You Can Do.
All three members of the trio have established careers in classical music, with Monari and Schneeberger having close connections with Scottish Opera.
Philadelphia-born Monari studied at the Juilliard School before continuing her training at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Alexander Gibson Opera School and the Royal Academy of Music in London.
She has appeared as a soloist with the City of Glasgow Chorus and Scottish Opera Orchestra and performed roles with Scottish Opera, OperaUpClose, Fife Opera and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Glasgow-born tenor Schneeberger is a prize-winning graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and has performed as a recitalist, oratorio soloist and opera singer across the UK.
His career has included performances with Scottish Opera, Opera Bohemia and Opera Alba, as well as regular appearances with the Scottish Opera Chorus.
Completing the trio is pianist Edward Cohen, who holds two Master of Music degrees with distinction from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and is pianist for the RSNO Chorus.
His career has taken him across the UK and overseas, with performances in India, Russia, the USA and throughout Europe.
The trio’s Irving Berlin concerts have previously attracted enthusiastic reviews, with audiences praising both the musical performances and the anecdotes from the composer’s life woven throughout the programme.
Sunday’s concert will mark the beginning of Cowal Music Club’s latest season of performances at Dunoon Burgh Hall.
