Islay distillery seeks longer alcohol sales hours

AN ISLAY distillery is seeking permission to have its core hours for alcohol sales extended, and to add extra space to its licensed area.

Management at the Bruichladdich Distillery want to extend their visitor centre’s closing time for on sales from the current 5.30pm to 10pm seven days a week.

The opening hour for on sales would remain at 10am, while off sales would remain unchanged, from 10am to 10pm seven days a week.

It is also requested to amend the layout plan so that Academy House can be incorporated into the licenced area.

The application will be heard by the Argyll and Bute licensing board at its meeting on Tuesday, April 21.

A report by a licensing standards officer said: “Bruichladdich Distillery seek variation to their current licence by including the ‘Academy House’ space as bookable for use to enjoy a drink in an outdoor space.

“Academy House is an adjoining plot behind the distillery warehouses which has undergone work to transform the outdoor space and is owned by the company.”

The licensing standards officer added: “Currently we only have the shop layout plan. I would suggest a full site plan including warehouses/grounds as one site, with addition of the shop layout plan/botanist/academy house separately and these areas indicated in red on the site plan, if at all possible, for clarity of where licensed areas are located within the site.”
