PLANS have been lodged to create visitor accommodation and multi-function space at a stable yard on Islay.
Dunlossit Trustees Ltd have applied to Argyll and Bute Council for listed building consent for the site at Dunlossit House in Port Askaig.
The proposed works are reported to be with a view to securing the “continued long-term use” of the buildings on the site.
The council is expected to rule on the application by late September, with the public now able to view the plans and submit feedback.
A heritage statement by planning agents Galbraith said: “The proposed works comprise the sensitive refurbishment, repair and adaptation of buildings within the historic stable yard to secure their continued long-term use in support of the operational requirements of the Dunlossit Estate.
“The southwestern range of the stable yard will be adapted to provide estate staff accommodation over the ground and first floor levels.
“The accommodation comprises four bedrooms, including an accessible bedroom, together with associated communal living and kitchen facilities and ancillary accommodation.
“The proposed use will provide residential accommodation for estate employees and will support the continued management and operation of the estate.
“The proposed accommodation is contained entirely within the existing building envelope, with no alteration to the overall scale, massing or historic form of the building.
“Internal works are designed to make efficient use of existing spaces whilst ensuring that the external appearance and character of the stable yard remain substantially unchanged.”
The statement added: “The north-western range of the stable yard will be converted to provide a flexible multi-function space together with associated WC and shower facilities.
“The accommodation has been designed to support the varied operational requirements of the estate throughout the year.
“This use represents a continuation of the building’s traditional supporting role within the estate and ensures the long-term occupation and maintenance of previously underutilised accommodation.”
