PLANS to develop existing stable yard space on Islay into visitor accommodation and a multi-purpose area have been approved by council officers.
Dunlossit Trustees Ltd made applications for planning permission and listed building consent for the stable yard at Dunlossit House, in Port Askaig.
Argyll and Bute Council has now approved the two bids after no representations were received from the public in response to either.
A council planning officer said in a handling report with the listed building consent application: “Dunlossit House is currently operated as a short-term let and has permission to host leisure and commercial events.
“Dunlossit House, and consequently the wider site delineated by the blue-edged boundary, is a category C listed building.
“While the stable yard and associated ancillary buildings are not specifically referenced within the statutory listing description, they are nonetheless considered to form part of the listed building by virtue of their historic and functional relationship with the principal house.
“The proposals consist of converting the northern outbuilding to a laundry and linen store, with groundskeeper storage, and a multi-function space, with WC and shower facilities.
“The southern buildings would be converted to staff living accommodation, consisting of a communal living room, communal kitchen, WCs, an accessible bedroom with en-suite, a bike store and further storage.
“The first floor would be converted to three en-suite bedrooms with associated storage and would be accessed via the internal staircase.”
The report added: “The proposed development, including the internal and external changes, are considered to be modest and would therefore not adversely impact the setting and appearance of the buildings, or the Dunlossit House.”
