Kilmun Hall to unveil plans for community orchard

KILMUN Hall will welcome visitors next month for a summer fair celebrating community spirit, family fun and exciting plans for a new village orchard.

The event takes place on Saturday, June 20, with a packed programme of activities planned throughout the day.

Visitors can enjoy a barbecue, outdoor games, stalls, refreshments and home baking, alongside children’s activities including building a bug hotel and painting items for the garden.

There will also be live entertainment in the afternoon from the Ardentinny Tooters.

The summer fair will give organisers the opportunity to share their vision for a developing community orchard in the grounds of Kilmun Hall.

Plans include planting five apple trees and five plum trees, along with gooseberry and jostaberry bushes, creating a shared growing space for the local community to enjoy.

Members of the public will also have the chance to gift or dedicate trees to family members, friends or loved ones, with handmade slate signs provided. Trees can be sponsored for £25 or £30, depending on size.

A community planting day is planned for July 1, with anyone interested in planting a tree invited to find out more during the summer fair.

Organisers are also hoping to hear from volunteers who would like to help maintain the front garden and keep the space looking its best.

If funding can be secured, or suitable volunteers come forward, Kilmun Hall hopes to offer practical learning sessions, particularly aimed at young people.

Potential sessions could include pruning, small tree management, compost making, creating wildlife-friendly habitats and experimenting with projects such as building a dead hedge.

The summer fair will also feature stalls selling plants, books, handmade items, bottle and jar stalls, and a raffle.

Entry is free and organisers say they are looking forward to welcoming the community along to enjoy the day and learn more about the plans.
