THREE primary seven pupils at Kirn Primary School are hoping the local community will help them score a lasting legacy before they move on to secondary school.
Ghillie, Summer and Caleb have launched a fundraising campaign to raise money for new football goals for their school playground, after deciding the existing goals have seen better days.
The trio say football is one of the most popular activities at break and lunchtime, but the current goals are old, small and broken, limiting how much they can be used.
The pupils, who will be starting at Dunoon Grammar School in August, wanted to do something positive in their final year at primary school that would benefit future pupils and the wider community.
They said: “We love playing football at break and lunchtime, and lots of other children do too.
“We want to leave something special behind for Kirn Primary so pupils and community sports groups can enjoy the goals for many years to come.”
To help reach their target, the pupils have set up a Crowdfunder page and are also accepting cash donations through the school office. Anyone who donates £5 or more will have their name – or business name – added to the new goals as a thank-you. A limited number of larger name spaces on the crossbar are also available for £100 donations.
The pupils said they have been encouraged by the support already shown and hope more people will get involved.
If the fundraising total goes beyond the cost of the goals, any extra money will be put towards additional playground equipment, with ideas already being gathered from other pupils to ensure the improvements are as inclusive as possible.
“We hope lots of people will support us and help make this happen for Kirn Primary School, every donation makes a difference and we really appreciate it.”
