DOUGLAS Anderson claimed the Captain’s Prize in the gents’ section at Kyles of Bute Golf Club on Sunday after edging out Jim Carruthers on countback following an excellent round of net 66.
With both players finishing on the same score, Anderson secured the trophy thanks to the better inward half in one of the closest finishes of the season.
There was a three-way tie for third place on net 69, with Niall McFarlane, Tom G. Whyte and Mike McIntosh all finishing level after strong performances.
Carruthers did, however, have the consolation of lifting the scratch prize with an impressive gross score of 72.
There were also two holes-in-two recorded during the competition, courtesy of Dan MacRae and Mike McIntosh.
The ladies were also in championship action, with Lucie Cooney crowned ladies’ champion, while Mhairi Carruthers secured the handicap championship title.
Julie Macdonald completed a successful day by winning the nine-hole Ashburn Trophy.
Following the day’s golf, the ladies provided a celebratory lunch for members before presentations were made to the prize winners and club congratulated all of this year’s champions.
Attention now turns to the Bill Stewart Memorial Trophy, which will be played on Sunday, August 3. All gents members are invited to take part, with a 9.45am ballot.
