COLGLEN were once again involved in a hugely entertaining Premiership match as they traded blows with Caberfeidh at the Clachan of Glendaruel at the weekend.
On a sunny Saturday afternoon in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, ColGlen produced another impressive performance for the onlookers; however, it was the visitors who opened the scoring after 14 minutes as Blair Morrison found himself in space and took full advantage of the opportunity to put Caberfeidh ahead.
But ColGlen responded well and drew level on the half-hour mark after a well-placed pass found Marcus Keith, who swooped in and finished from inside the area to make it 1-1 before the break.
It was Caberfeidh who came back out the strongest, though, restoring their advantage just three minutes into the second half. Gavin McLaughlan sent a soaring lob towards the Glen goal which sailed over keeper Scott Symons into the back of the net.
But once again, the Glen showed their character, and in the 57th minute, Neily McNaughton cut across the Cabers defence with the ball and finished from the back post to bring ColGlen level for the second time.
Then, finally, ColGlen got their noses in front in the 71st minute. Scott MacVicar produced the pick of the bunch, unleashing a long-range rocket which flew into the roof of the net to put the Glen 3-2 ahead.
This sent the home support into wild celebration, and as the clock ran down, it looked like the men in yellow and black had done enough to secure both points, but Caberfeidh had one final twist in store.
As the game ticked over into added time, Jamie Mackintosh saw his effort take a vicious bounce before spinning awkwardly into Symons’ goal, leaving the home side frustrated and ensuring the match finished 3-3.
The result is ColGlen’s second consecutive draw, and third during the season so far, but it still keeps them in the hunt as they battle to retain their Premiership status.
Full-back Cally McNaughton, sponsored by Brian McNaughton, was the outstanding player for the home side and was deservedly named Man of the Match. ColGlen were also very grateful to Amy’s Kitchen Sourdough for sponsoring the game.
Despite the disappointment of conceding so late, there were plenty of positives for ColGlen to take from what was an excellent team effort. Club president, Neil Black, said: “This was another positive performance at home.
“We were unlucky not to secure both points, but we have four big games to go, and everyone is fully focused on the task ahead.”
ColGlen’s next game is again at home on September 12 at the Clachan against Skye.
