Rothesay golfers wrap up season with final open contests

The final two open competitions of the golfing year took place in fine weather last weekend at Rothesay Golf Club.

The first of the competitions was the Mikey McArthur Memorial, which took place on Saturday.

This year’s winner was the wily veteran, Frank Lee, with a grand total of 40 points.

In second place with 38 points was Andrew Donald, with Malcolm Brown on the same score in third.

The famous Shaw Rose Bowl–which in the past has been played as a mixed pair knockout competition–was this year reintroduced as a two-team (gent and lady) Texas scramble.

The inaugural winners in this format were men’s secretary Iain Simpson and ladies match secretary Liz McMillan,with the splendid score of 62.

In second place came Jim Milliken and Catherine Rae with 68, beating Stuart and E. McLean into third place.

With the end of the summer season comes the start of the J & J Zan Kreyser and West Coast Motors winter leagues, which begins in earnest this coming weekend at RGC.
