Letter of thanks to Dunoon Remembrance Parade

Editor – I have just returned home after being invited to attend the Dunoon Remembrance Parade and felt that the best way to thank those involved is via your publication.

It has been some years since a Lord Lieutenant has been able to attend the Dunoon parade and I was delighted to do so this year.

It was so wonderful to see so many veterans on parade but also so many varied other groups represented. In particular, I was delighted to see so many younger people there, from both bands all the way down to the Scouts and Guides and the Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association, and of course their proud parents and the adult leaders.

It is also heartening to see how many turned out to watch and participate from the sidelines showing the importance of Remembrance, during such ‘horrible’ weather.

I know that events like these take some organising and they don’t work without people giving their best behind the scenes so via your newspaper can I say thank you to Police Scotland, the Argyll & Bute Council Roads and Amenities team,

including the traffic wardens, the staff and attendees at the Queens Hall and finally the people of Dunoon who were there, in numbers, to show their support.

With so many young people involved, although we remember the past, this should give us so much hope for the future. Thank you all.

Mrs Jane MacLeod Lord Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute
