Letters to the Editor - Dunoon deserves answers, not accusations

Editor – Dunoon Presents stands accused of misleading the public over the advertising banners, a basic question needs answering: was any real work actually carried out on this project, and what evidence is there to prove it?

The public deserves to know what was done, by whom and when.

Did the BID manager give the public an accurate account of what happened? These are serious questions that deserve clear, honest answers.

Councillor Moreland is right to demand answers, but he must also be held to the same standard of accountability as the BID. If he makes accusations, he must ready to back them up with evidence and be clear about the facts.

Raising legitimate concerns is his job, especially when public money is involved, however he should not expect his position as a councillor to put him beyond criticism, and there are lots that can be made. Equally, the BID cannot dismiss uncomfortable questions simply by attacking the person asking them. Both sides must be prepared to face scrutiny.

After nearly fifteen years, Dunoon Presents must answer for its record and the lasting improvements it has delivered. Questions remain about its regeneration work, its use of funding and the state of our town centre. We are repeatedly told projects such as the pump track are “coming soon”, but when will they actually arrive? Promises are easy to make; delivering them is what matters.

This is about more than a disagreement between individuals. Public money and public trust are at stake. Local businesses and the taxpayer contribute to the BID, and residents deserve proof that money is being spent responsibly and that promised projects are actually being worked on yet alone delivered.

When questions are asked, the response should be transparency and evidence, not defensiveness and attacks. If councillor Moreland is wrong, show the evidence and the public will hold him to account. Neither accusations nor assurances are enough.

Dunoon deserves facts, accountability and real results — not another round of arguments while important questions remain unanswered.
