THREE Dunoon Grammar School pupils have helped secure a £3,000 funding boost for a local charity supporting people with additional support needs and disabilities.
Students Lucy, Imogen and Isla successfully represented Waterbaby Arts as part of the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI), delivering a powerful presentation which resulted in the charity being awarded the grant.
Waterbaby Arts is a non-profit dance and arts charity which provides inclusive movement, creative and wellbeing opportunities for children, young people and adults with additional support needs and disabilities.
The organisation works to ensure the arts are accessible to everyone, creating welcoming spaces where people can express themselves, build confidence and take part in creative activities.
As part of their YPI project, Lucy, Imogen and Isla researched the work of the charity, learning about the impact it has within the local community.
The girls interviewed creative projects manager Linda Payne and chairperson Donna-Marie Canavan, gaining a deeper understanding of Waterbaby Arts and the importance of inclusion within the arts.
They also went one step further by getting directly involved with the charity, taking part in a danceathon fundraiser organised alongside speech and language student Shel Stevely at the Learning Centre at Dunoon Grammar School.
Using everything they had learned through their research and hands-on experience, the pupils created and delivered their winning presentation.
The £3,000 grant will help Waterbaby Arts continue providing creative opportunities and accessible activities for people across the community.
Linda Payne and Donna-Marie Canavan from Waterbaby Arts thanked Lucy, Imogen and Isla for choosing to support the charity and for the dedication they showed throughout the project.
They said the girls demonstrated excellent research, communication and presentation skills while helping raise awareness of the importance of inclusive arts.
Waterbaby Arts said the funding will make a real difference as it continues its mission to ensure everyone has the opportunity to experience the joy and benefits of creativity and movement.
