AN Italian man with a deep love of Scotland and piping has been on a very long quest to find a rare book of pipe music.
It’s not just that the book is rare, but it also has a deep sentimental meaning to him.
The book’s cover is headed ‘Dunoon Highland Gathering’ and contains a collection of bagpipe music.
Marco Borzacca told us that he has been in love with Scotland since he spent his honeymoon here many years ago.
He said: “From this trip was born my strong passion for bagpipes, which I was bought from a local manufacturer, Mr George Kilgour, who lived in Ballindalloch, where he ran a small craft workshop.”
Marco said Mr Kilgour introduced him to Mr. Joseph Wright, who at the time was a member of the College of Piping in Glasgow, and gave Marco his first music lessons.
Marco said: “Mr Wright was like a father to me, as well as a teacher.”
The pupil and teacher were in contact for many years.
Sadly, Mr Wright passed away, which affected Marco deeply, and made him determined to carry on with everything he had been taught, and after years of study and practice, Marco says he can now play reasonably well.
But what about the music book and the years-long quest to find it?
Marco explained: “Mr Wright showed me his collection of music books and among them was the book I’m looking for. I would dearly love to have a copy, because it reminds me of him and his loving family, where my wife and I were guests for many days, in their small hotel.
“If I could find this book, it would be a source of joy for me, because it would be like having a dear memory of him.
“Furthermore, it would also enrich my library, in which I still keep a tutor book that he gave me, with his dedication, which I consider a treasured memento.”
Attached is a photo showing the front cover of the book, so if any readers know of where to find a copy, Marco is willing to buy it and pay for it to be posted to him in Italy.
Marco added: “I have been searching for many, many years for this book. Anyone who owns it and is willing to sell it, can email me at [email protected].”
