McLean wins Ian Haig Trophy

LAST WEEK saw the ever popular Ian Haig Trophy played out at Rothesay Golf Club.

This year’s iteration was won by Stuart McLean with 77-12=65, runner-up and only one stroke behind was Stephen Reynolds with 71- 5=66 and Martin White took third place, whilst George Reynolds won the scratch with 70.

The club wished to thank the Haig family and the people who donated prizes, with the British Heart Foundation benefitting from the proceeds of the raffle.

Elsewhere, this year’s August medal was sponsored by the Port Bannatyne Marina.

Unfortunately the weather was not kind, a very windy and wet day meant the scoring was high, as Willie Glen won division one with a net 73 and Jimmy Ewing won division two with a net 80.

Jimmy Reid’s Glengarry Kitchen Masters was also played on September 6, as large field of four-man teams competed for a host of good prizes.

In first place was Willie Glen, Frank Lee, Jimmy Ewing and Ewan McTaggart with a score of 121, one shot behind came Allan Smith Jr, Craig McFarlane, Jimmy Burke and John Black and third place was taken by Iain and Owen Simpson, Stephen Reynolds and Malky Brown on 125.

The club thanked Jimmy for his sponsorship and hard work presenting the competition.

Members also competed in captain Mike Dodds’ captain day, which was a two person Texas scramble.

Catherine Rae and Elisabeth McMillan took the spoils with a score of 65, winning on countback.

Runner-up was David Coll and Graham McArthur and in third was Iain Simpson and Robert Walker.

Next up is the September medal and the Inter pub Trophy.
