Mobile sauna plan submitted for Minard shore

PROPOSALS for a moveable sauna on an Argyll and Bute beach are being considered by council officers.

Silvia Jost has submitted a proposal for the sauna, which would be on a trailer, on land northeast of Seaview, in Minard.

A report said that using the trailer would allow the option for the sauna to be moved off the beach if it was likely to flood.

The council is expected to rule on the application for planning permission by late August, with the public now able to view plans and submit feedback.

A design and access statement by MBS Architecture said: “This planning application is for the erection of a moveable sauna on Minard Beach, for commercial use. The approximate size would be 4.5m x 2.5m in plan.

“The intention is to have this located nearby the existing beach and access point to Minard beach to allow users to both utilise the health and wellbeing facilities of the sauna as well as the benefit of access to the local beach/Loch Fyne waters for swimming/dipping before/after use.

“The intention is for this sauna to be located on a trailer so that there is an option to remove this off site if it is likely to flood.

“We anticipate there being very little disturbance to the ground (as it will be located on a trailer) as the only item touching the ground will be the wheels/tyres of the trailer and the stepped access to the sauna, therefore we anticipate very little disruption to the site and would not cause flooding elsewhere to be of any greater risk than it is currently, as this development will not affect the flow of water underneath the trailer during any flood event.

“The installation of the sauna will provide part-time employment to the applicant and potentially for another one to two part-time staff over time.

“The proposed development would contribute positively to the local economy by enhancing the existing holiday accommodation and caravan park facilities. It would also support and encourage increased visitor activity to nearby local attractions, including Crarae Garden and Auchindrain Township, thereby benefiting the wider tourism economy in the area.

“The project will provide resources for the local community; 10 per cent of the income would go to the Minard Community Trust (as lease for the grounds on the shore), which will allow them to continue funding community events like the duck race with local children, Guy Fawkes Bonfire, beach clean, community BBQ at the shore.”

The statement added: “The proposed sauna would provide a valuable community wellbeing and recreational facility, promoting physical and mental health through accessible outdoor wellness experiences.

“The development would enhance local leisure provision for residents and visitors alike, encourage year-round use of the shoreline area, and support the wider local tourism economy.

“In addition, the sauna would create a shared social space that encourages community interaction and outdoor activity in a sustainable and low-impact manner.”
