DUNOON Coastguard Rescue Team joined a multi-agency operation last weekend as a major search was launched after two divers went missing in Loch Fyne on Sunday afternoon.
Police Scotland was alerted to concerns for two divers in the water near St Catherines, Cairndow, at around 3.30pm.
A 25-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the body of a 24-year-old was later recovered from the water following an extensive search involving coastguard rescue teams, lifeboats and a rescue helicopter.
Alongside the Dunoon Coastguard Rescue Team, volunteers from Crinan, Kames and Inveraray were mobilised, with HM Coastguard’s rescue helicopter also assisting.
Lifeboats from Tighnabruaich, Campbeltown and Largs were deployed as part of the multi-agency response.
Loch Fyne, Scotland’s longest sea loch, is a popular destination for divers, with the waters around St Catherines regularly used for both recreational and training dives.
Police Scotland said the deaths are currently being treated as unexplained, with post-mortem examinations due to take place.
Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
