PLANS have been lodged for a new clubhouse at Oban’s Glencruitten Golf Club.
A statement submitted with the application for planning permission says that the facility is also designed to meet the future needs of the local shinty and football communities.
It added that the proposed development would “create a modern, high-quality multi-sport facility” that secured the long-term future of the activities within a single development.
Argyll and Bute Council’s planning officers are expected to rule on the application early in the New Year, with the public now able to view plans and submit feedback.
A design and access statement by Bracewell said: “By bringing golf, football and shinty facilities together within one coordinated development, the proposal will deliver significant operational efficiencies and long-term sustainability benefits.
“This collaborative approach strengthens the viability of all participating organisations and provides a resilient, future-proof sporting hub for the wider Oban community.
“The existing clubhouse, built in the 1960s, has reached and been extended well beyond its natural life.
“The most recent upgrade was in 2021 and current refurbishments costs are estimated to be in the £100,000s for essential electrical, fabric plumbing and roof upgrades
“Originally developed in the early 20th century alongside the establishment of the golf course, the clubhouse no longer adequately meets current needs.
“Since then, the golf club has grown significantly in both scale and reputation, demonstrating its value to the local community as well as its ability to nurture players who have gone on to achieve international success.
“Relocating the new clubhouse will enable the existing clubhouse to remain fully operational during the construction phases, ensuring continuity of revenue generation and minimising disruption to club activities.”
The statement added: “The proposed development represents a realistic, deliverable and sustainable investment in the future of sport and recreation within Oban.
“The project has evolved through collaboration between Glencruitten Golf Club and the local shinty and football community, recognising the opportunity to create a modern multi-sport facility that secures the long-term future of these activities within a single integrated development.
“In addition to securing the future of existing sporting provision, the development will create facilities capable of hosting larger local, regional and national events, bringing wider economic, social and community benefits to Oban.
“The investment will help safeguard two sporting institutions with deep historical roots in the town whilst creating a modern facility capable of serving future generations.
“Overall, there is a clear pathway to delivery, supported by an established user base, multiple potential funding streams, collaborative management arrangements and a compelling long-term business case.
“The proposal represents a significant investment in the future of community sport and provides confidence that the facility can be successfully delivered, operated and maintained for many decades to come.”
