OVERNIGHT closures are planned at the Kilchurn Bridge in Dalmally, a report has said.
Transport Scotland says the measures are being planned in order to replace two covers on the centreline of the bridge, which will remain open as usual during the day.
Temporary average speed cameras are also expected to remain in place on the A85 between Tyndrum and Dalmally until October, while planned closures for resurfacing on the Connel Bridge have been delayed.
An update has also been given to councillors and community figures on measures to stabilise the rock face at Benderloch, which is expected to be complete next month.
The details feature in a report to Argyll and Bute Council’s Oban Lorn and the Isles community planning group for its meeting on Wednesday, August 12.
The report said: “We are planning a series of overnight closures at Kilchurn Bridge over the River Orchy to facilitate the replacement of two covers located on the bridge centreline.
“The works will be completed over four nights, with the A85 remaining open during the day. We have worked closely with bus operators to minimise disruption to public transport, and further details will be communicated by the BEAR media team in advance of the works.
“Works to stabilise the Benderloch rock face are progressing, with loose rock removal, rock anchor installation and protective netting currently underway.
“Completion is expected by September, although traffic management and overnight road closures will continue to impact the network.
“A final phase of works is also being developed by BEAR Scotland and Transport Scotland to provide a long-term solution for the remaining section of the slope.”
The report also said: “Temporary average speed cameras have now been installed on the A85 between Tyndrum and Dalmally and will remain in place until October.
“These measures are intended to improve safety for road users, particularly motorcyclists, along this section of the route.”
In an update on the Connel Bridge, the report added: “The planned bridge closures for resurfacing have been delayed, impacting the associated signal upgrade programme.
“Delivering the upgrades alongside the deck works remains the most efficient approach, enabling the renewal of ageing signal infrastructure, including cabling, detection systems and UPS equipment, while introducing cyclist improvements such as upgraded signal heads with early-release facilities.
“This coordinated approach minimises disruption, avoids abortive work and delivers better value for investment.”
