Planning bid lodged for six homes near Dunoon

PLANS have been submitted to council officials for six houses to be constructed on a farm site on the Cowal Peninsula.

Alexander and Christine MacLeod have applied for planning permission for the accommodation units at Ardnadam Farm at Sandbank, near Dunoon.

Planning permission in principle was previously granted by Argyll and Bute Council for seven houses and two flats on the site in 2015.

The council is expected to rule on the latest application by early March, with the public now able to view plans and submit feedback.

A design statement by Birchwood Architecture and Construction Management said: “Sustainability has been a key consideration in the design, from the initial concept through to the proposed construction, end use, and flexible long-term potential.

“External materials include locally grown larch cladding and metal standing seam roofs. They have been planned to create efficient, warm, dry, light-filled homes.

“Although functional to minimise maintenance, the buildings will harmonise with their surroundings while minimising their impact on the broader environment and look to satisfy all local and national design guidance for best practice.

“The site has a bus link on the pavement along High Road, this provides access to local bus routes which include 478, 484 and 486. These routes connect the site to all the necessary local amenities and onward transport services such as ferry links.

“The proposed development will further promote the use of sustainable transport through the inclusion of electrical charging points for each dwelling.

“The finishes propose include timber cladding for the external walls and a metal standing seam roof finish. All materials used will primarily be sourced locally where possible and from sustainable sources.

“We believe that this proposal provides appropriately sited, designed, detailed and finished dwellings that will be of their place and provide excellent, sustainable accommodation for the self-build market.”
