Plans lodged for five homes beside Faslane Peace Camp

PLANS have been revealed for a five-house development on a site adjacent to the Faslane Peace Camp at Shandon.

Planning permission in principle is being sought by Joe Lafferty for the site, which would be accessed via an existing route off the A814 road.

The proposed houses would be a mixture of four and five-bedroom properties if they are granted full planning permission. The ruins of the house which previously occupied the site, Auchenard, are reportedly visible.

Argyll and Bute Council planning officers are expected to make a decision on the application by mid-May, with the public now able to view the plans and submit feedback.

A design and access statement by CC Architectural said: “The new small housing development is for five housing plots, set out with generous space around and each will have a view of the Gare Loch. Houses will be a mix of four and five bedrooms.

“The access road improvements have been discussed in detail with the planning department and roads department during the pre-application consultation process.

“There have been meetings and significant correspondence with regards to the roads department and roads details.

“A vehicle turning area [is] provided within the site with a 5m allowance for distance between plots facing each other.

“The planning guide for a four and five bedroom house is to have three parking spaces. This has been provided. One space will have 3x6m with two additional spaces 2.5x5m.”

The statement added: “Planning advice was generally supportive of the use of the site. Our roads consultant met with the planning and roads department.

“The roads department had comments which have been addressed with the attached road details including passing places/kerb details/speed humps/drainage ditch/gully details [and] improvements at the existing bus stop.”
