Plans lodged to convert Oban office into accommodation

PLANS have been lodged to convert an Oban office and staff accommodation unit into two-bedroom residential accommodation for NHS workers.

The Blue Triangle has made the request for planning permission at Don Mor House, on Shore Street, in the town centre.

The premises, assumed to have been built in the 1960s, were previously used as staff accommodation for the Kelvin Hotel.

Argyll and Bute Council planning officers are expected to rule on the application early in the New Year, with the public now able to view plans and submit feedback.

A supporting statement by planning agents Bruce and Neil Chartered Architects said: “The application seeks change of use approval to convert the building back to a dwelling to provide long let living accommodation.

“It is intended that this accommodation will be provided to NHS staff partnering with the applicant’s organisation to assist in its delivery of services.

“Beyond the change in use of the building, the proposals involve very few physical alterations. The inappropriate Onduline-type roofing is in poor condition and will be replaced with similar black coloured profiled metal sheeting.

“Internally, upgrades will be made to thermal insulation to suit the building standards requirements, but no alterations to the existing layout are proposed.

“The applicant emphasises that the accommodation will be used on a long let basis for NHS staff directly involved in delivering the organisation’s services.

“The accommodation will not be openly marketed nor used for short term or holiday letting. The applicant acknowledges that planning conditions to formalise these restrictions are likely to be applied.”
