Port Bannatyne hosts own Ryder Cup

You’ve heard of the magic of Medina, but this was the massacre at the mains, as Port Bannatyne Golf Club held its own version of one of golf’s most famous competitions.

Team Europe, led by club captain Matty Dunn with vice-captain Sam Jamieson, took on team USA, with captain Donald Standaloft and vice-captain Roddie Leitch at the helm.

A few singles matches were played with the rest consisting of four-balls.

Team USA got the ball rolling early doors, handing out free shots to all USA players for breakfast to loosen up the limbs.

This had the desired effect, with USA storming the hallowed course to scud team Europe 7-6.

A few notable scores along the way included club champion Donald Standaloft beating Matthew Dunn 3up, Neil McKay (Europe) beating Robert Jardine (USA) 7&6, but the biggest scudding of the day belonged to USA vice-captain Roddie Leitch who beat his opposing vice-captain 10up.

Anita Rutherford and Liz McMillan beat Janet McAllister and Cath Rae, taking the points home for the USA in the ladies match.

A great day was had by all, and the club wanted to wish a huge thanks to Donald, Matthew, Sam and Roddie for organising the event, Duncan and Graham for keeping the course in fantastic condition, and Hazel and Roddie for the amazing food and drink.
