Port Bannatyne Golf Club served up another lively afternoon of golf last week week as match day two of the Rothesay Motor Services Winter League produced tight finishes, standout victories, and a few commanding performances across the course.
One of the highlights came early, with Roddie Leitch & Chrissy Lawrence securing a superb half-match against the experienced pairing of David Kilpatrick & Mike Ivory, setting the tone for a day.
There were several emphatic wins on the card, including a 6&4 ‘scudding’ delivered by Carl Kelly & Colin Muir over Kalum Ledicott & Donald Standaloft.
A strong performance also saw Neil McKay & Martin Young take a well-earned 2&1 victory against Robert McArthur & Gordon McIntyre, while David Driver & Graham Fisher claimed a solid 4&3 win over Graham Dunn & David Rutherford.
Elsewhere, Davie Greer & Neil Whitelaw battled to a 3&1 finish against John Black & Matthew Dunn, and Sam Jamieson & Iain McFarlane matched it with a 4&3 win over Alan Stewart & Hector Whitelaw.
A particularly strong showing came from John Whitelaw & Alex Morrison Cowan, who posted a commanding 5&3 victory against Ewan Irvine & Duncan Lyon. That momentum carried into the day’s special prize as well, with the pair winning Nearest the Pin at the 10th, sponsored by Carl Kelly, earning themselves a bottle of spirits each.
Rounding off the results, Sean Lawrence & Colin Renfrew overcame Larry Devine & Matt McLean with another 5&3 triumph, while Phil Williams & Stewart Izat closed the day with a tidy 2&1 win over Jack Standaloft & Gordon Currie.
With the leaderboard beginning to take shape, the Rothesay Motor Services Winter League is already delivering drama at Port Bannatyne.
