Questions raised over council pay rises

Editor – My old friend Michael Breslin in last week’s Safety Valve had a rant about Argyll and Bute Council management pay rises, is the Chief Exec. worth £242k including pension etc, in a cash strapped council. I could not agree more with Michael and don’t understand why

they have awarded such a huge increase to what were already very high salaries particularly as there will be budget cuts this year due to lack of funds. Michael might be expecting a letter from his association.

That excellent planning officer has a rant too. David

Eaglesham was head planner for Bute and Cowal Area for some years when I was on the council. He was one of the few planners who used common sense when treating planning applications, but the legislation which had been foisted upon planners by the European Union,

the first Labour Scottish Government, followed by the present SNP Government must have been infuriating. David did his best with hands tied by the legislators and I am sure that some people just gave up with exasperation waiting for decisions.
