Rothesay pipe band competes at national schools competition

YOUNG pipers and drummers from the Rothesay and District Pipe Band proudly represented Isle of Bute schools on Sunday at the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships in Kilmarnock.

For all but one of the band members, it was their very first time competing in a pipe band event. Despite their lack of experience, the youngsters delivered a brilliant performance and impressing all four judges and their piping and drumming tutors.

Their hard work paid off when they were crowned winners of the Junior C competition, finishing first in a strong field of 17 bands from across the country, each judge placing them first.

The trip was not only about competition. The young musicians also had the chance to meet other pupils who share the same passion for piping and drumming.

The young players are now looking forward to the upcoming outdoor competition season. Their plans include taking part in the Glasgow and West of Scotland Pipe Band Championships in Renfrew, the prestigious World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, as well as performing closer to home at the Bute Highland Games.
