A VINTAGE and retro shop in Tarbert has had its application for an alcohol premises licence unanimously agreed.
The proposal for No 3 Kerryview would allow the recently-opened premises to sell rare malt whisky as part of its stock.
Councillors agreed to support the bid for a premises licence at a meeting of the Argyll and Bute licensing board on Tuesday, September 22.
Will Craig, speaking in support of the application, said: “We are a recently opened antique vintage and retro shop, and we wish to add rare malt whisky to what we wish to sell.
“It would be very beneficial for the business and to tourists, and is a small selection we are doing, mostly old and rare.”
Licensing standards officer Raymond Park added: “It is very much a modest display. The layout plan shows it quite clearly, with 2.6 per cent of the floor space given to alcohol. Mr Craig has great experience of running alcohol premises across the area.”
Councillor Reeni Kennedy-Boyle (SNP, Isle of Bute) then asked: “On the security setup, will alcohol be on open display, or will there be a locked cabinet?”
Mr Craig responded: “It is in a cabinet with closed doors, which I was going to remove, but I will be based right next to the cabinet.
“It is not behind the counter as such, but in an area where it is right in front of me. I have no plans to lock it.”
The application was then unanimously approved by the board.
