TOWARD SEASPORTS CLUB enjoyed a busy week of activities, with members making the most of the warm weather both on and off the water.
Wednesday evenings are usually reserved for one of the dinghy training sessions at the club, but this week’s session was cancelled due to other commitments.
However, this did not mean it was a quiet evening at TSC, as members gathered with tents, barbecues, cameras and swimming gear to enjoy the solar eclipse.
The club was packed as people settled in to watch the spectacle, although the eclipse itself passed rather uneventfully behind the clouds.
The cloud cover did little to dampen the atmosphere, however, with members enjoying a party atmosphere and a warm evening at the club.
The following evening brought plenty of sunshine but, typically for Argyll, little wind.
The lack of breeze did not deter the club’s ever-eager racers, who headed out onto the water for race night.
With the sun shining and little to no wind, it was a slow start for the fleet, with only a few boats making it to the first mark.
Others drifted over the mark before having to return as the lack of wind pushed them back.
It became less a race of speed and more a test of who could drift in the right direction, requiring plenty of skill and patience.
The results saw Topper, sailed by T McCrossan, take first place, followed by Toots (J Proctor) in second and Purple Pixie (K Baird-Dean) in third.
The busy week was rounded off on Sunday when the club’s skiff Brontosaurus took to the water for several hours during the afternoon, giving members the opportunity to have a row.
It proved to be a successful afternoon, with plenty of laughter and happy rowers taking part.
Everyone who went out thoroughly enjoyed the experience and expressed an interest in returning to become part of the skiff section.
The club thanked everyone who helped organise the afternoon and all those who attended.
