WITH the keelboats away on their end-of-season cruise, Toward Seasports Club’s dinghy fleet served up an entertaining Race 3 of the Frostbite Series in bright sunshine and a gusty northerly.
A mixed junior fleet of a Topper Taz, two Optimists and two Toppers got away cleanly. Tom McCrossan nailed the start, threading a sharp line through the moorings to open an early gap on Kriss Bairdean (Topper) and Niamh Wilson (Taz).
In the Optimists, Callum Draper rounded the moorings first, but Scarlet Gaze found a shorter tack to slip ahead on the approach to the top mark.
As the breeze softened, Wilson’s Taz pulled clear of the Oppies and set off in pursuit of the leading Toppers, but the chase ran out of wind. McCrossan kept his bow in pressure to the finish and took the overall win, with Bairdean next home and Wilson completing the Topper/Taz podium. Gaze held station to claim Optimist honours ahead of Draper.
Results
Toppers/Taz: 1 T. McCrossan; 2 K. Bairdean; 3 N. Wilson.

The Frostbite series continues next month, weather permitting.
