Toward Seasports Club report

DESPITE last week’s disappointing start to the frostbite season, with the race being cancelled due to high winds, there was no stopping the resolute sailors who turned up again to compete at Toward Seasports Club.

Another stiff southerly wind came through with heavy showers, so to avoid another disappointment the race officer set up a more sheltered inshore course, allowing the sailors to get out on the water and avoid the worst of the squalls.

Three cadets from the Holy Loch Sailing Club joined three from Toward, sailing 2 toppers, a Topaz Taz and an Optimist.

The toppers had a great start, keeping close together for the first circuit while the Taz and the Optimist sailed neck and neck close behind.

On the second circuit, the topper helmed by Tom took the overall lead from Ellie and first-time racer Erin.

Behind them, the Taz helmed by Niamh and crewed by Ruth, and the Optimist helmed by Scarlet, played cat and mouse until the Taz finally squeezed in front as they crossed the finish line.

There will be no racing at Toward next Sunday, September 14, as the cadets compete at Holy Loch Sailing Club during the Polaris weekend.Full results: 1, – Topper (T McCrossan): 2, – Topper (E Wilson); 3, – Topaz Taz (N Wilson); Optimist: (S Gaze)
