A Dunoon music tutor is appealing for local business support to help bring a popular children’s music camp back for a third year this summer.
Shona Wilson, the organiser behind Dunoon’s Music Makers, hopes to run the week-long event once again at Kirn Primary School from July 6 to July 10 following what has been described as a hugely successful launch last year.
The camp gives young people aged between five and 16 the chance to learn and perform music alongside professional tutors covering instruments including guitar, drums, percussion and piano.
Around 60 children have taken part in the project over the last two years, culminating in a live concert where participants perform in newly formed bands.
Shona Wilson said the response from young people and families had been extremely positive, with strong interest in continuing the project.
However, sponsorship is now being sought from local businesses to help cover running costs including school hire, tutor travel expenses and musical equipment.
She said: “This has been a wonderful opportunity for children to experience different instruments, build confidence and enjoy making music together. The support and enthusiasm from the young people has been fantastic and we would love to continue growing the project within the community.”
Businesses supporting the project will be invited to attend the final showcase concert at the end of the week.
