Kirn Primary School pitch closed by police

After an alleged incident involving police intervention, Argyll and Bute Council has closed the sports pitch at Kirn Primary School for use outwith school hours.

The pitch is popular with local youths for playing ball games on, as well as being a place for youth social gathering.

Police Scotland reported that two juvenile boys from the Dunoon area have been reported to Youth Justice office for threatening and abusive behaviour near the pitch at 4pm on November 26.

We understand at least one pupil from Dunoon Grammar School was involved.

Kirn parents received a letter from the school dated November 28 saying: “Unfortunately we have seen an increase in antisocial behaviour in our playground after school hours, culminating in an incident recently involving police.”

The letter went on: “Following a discussion with Mr Mitchell at Dunoon Grammar School and the local police, we have decided that we will be locking the pitch after school each day until we feel matters have improved.”

We asked Argyll and Bute Council when the pitch might open again, and a spokesperson said: ““The safety of our pupils is a priority. We have been made aware of an increase in antisocial behaviour after school hours that puts young people at risk.

“The school is working with the police and they will continue to monitor the situation until further notice.”
