Local talent shines in watercolour exhibition at Dunoon Burgh Hall

A NEW exhibition celebrating the beauty and versatility of watercolour painting is now open at Dunoon Burgh Hall.

‘The Colour of Water’

brings together the work of three Cowal-based artists — Louise Day, Jackie Stevenson RSW, and Catriona Henderson Darroch — each offering a unique perspective inspired by the landscapes and natural forms of Argyll.

Running until June 28, the exhibition is open to the public Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 3pm, and showcases a vibrant mix of work exploring the textures, tones, and light effects made possible through watercolour.

As part of the exhibition, visitors are invited to take part in a series of free Meet the Artist events held on Saturdays throughout May. These informal sessions offer a chance to hear directly from the artists about their inspirations, creative techniques, and artistic journeys.

This Saturday, May 24,

Louise Day will be at the gallery from 1pm to 2pm. Her work is known for its innovative yet detailed interpretation of Argyll’s coastal scenery and plant life — offering viewers a fresh lens on familiar landscapes.

The final Meet the Artist session will take place on Saturday May 31, again from 1pm to 2pm, when Catriona Henderson Darroch will welcome visitors to discuss her work and watercolour methods.

Earlier this month, guests enjoyed an engaging session with Jackie Stevenson RSW, whose appearance on Saturday 17th May drew praise for her insightful discussion on the expressive qualities of the medium.

These relaxed, drop-in events are free to attend and open to all — no booking required. Whether you’re a practising artist, an art enthusiast, or simply curious,‘The Colour of Water’ offers a wonderful opportunity to experience Cowal’s artistic talent up close.
