IT WAS a memorable weekend for Rothesay Golf Club, with impressive performances both on home turf and across the water in Millport.
On Saturday, around 50 players teed it up for the Alistair McQueen Memorial Trophy, and with calm conditions helping scoring, it proved to be a highly competitive outing.
Leading the way was Chris McKibben, who enjoyed a superb round to claim the trophy with an outstanding net score of 60 (89-29). His performance set the standard on a day when several players produced excellent returns.
Richie More finished in second place with a net 62 (77-15), a score that would have been enough to win many competitions, while Martin MacMillan secured third with a net 65 (93-27). In the scratch section, Iain Simpson took top honours with an impressive round of 68.
Club members also expressed their appreciation to the McQueen family for their continued support of the event, as well as for presenting the prizes at the end of the competition.
The following day, attention turned to team action as Rothesay travelled to Millport to defend the historic Graham Murray Cleek a trophy contested between the two clubs since 1892.
In a notable moment for the club, Rothesay fielded a female player in one of the committee matches for the first time in the fixtures long history, with ladies captain Catherine Rae playing her part in the team effort.
It proved to be a dramatic contest. Millport made a strong start, taking the first two matches and putting Rothesay under early pressure. However, the visitors showed great resilience, rallying to win the remaining four matches and secure an impressive 4-2 victory.
The result ensured the Graham Murray Cleek returned to Rothesay, where it will once again take pride of place in the clubhouse.
Overall, it was a highly successful weekend for the club, showcasing both individual excellence and collective success.
