PARENTS and carers across Cowal and Bute are set to benefit from a new digital service designed to make communication with schools quicker and easier.
Argyll and Bute Council is rolling out Parentsportal.scot to schools across Bute, Cowal, Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the islands following an earlier launch in Helensburgh and Lomond, where almost 1,000 parents and carers have already signed up.
The online service gives families instant access to school updates, important information and digital forms, reducing reliance on letters being carried home in school bags.
Using Parentsportal.scot, parents and carers can report absences online, sign permission slips digitally for school trips, access school information in real time and complete annual data checks electronically.
Councillor Kieron Green, Argyll and Bute Council’s policy lead for education, said the new system would help busy families stay connected with schools more easily.
He said: “As a parent, I know it can seem like a lot of information about children needs to get to and from school. With our busy lives, it can sometimes be all too easy to miss important news or requests.
“By rolling out Parentsportal.scot to all Argyll and Bute schools, we hope to make it easier to contact the school and stay informed about your child’s education.
“Making the switch from letters to digital is also kinder on the environment and reduces the chance of finding soggy bits of information two weeks late at the bottom of a school bag.”
Parents who already have a My Account through council online services can use it to sign up once contacted by their child’s school. Those without an account can register through the MyGovScot website.
The council says more information is available on its website.
